not your usual take on the elements of water, wind and fire. i know :)

to me, the positioning and the branching toes resemble fire. and the wrinkles remind me of the wind that rakes the desert sand. and of course, who can forget the element of water - ie: moisture/perspiration - that's associated with the orange heat... :D

done in faber-castell pencil crayons. took many hours. the awkward shadows were challenging.

i might paint a thin wash of orange or yellow watercolor over it to cover up the white "holes" that the pencil crayons left out.

this is really cool. feet are such a funny thing...the divets, wrinkles and such. so i thought it was an interesting subject. but they are realistic and also very creatively represented with all the colors. awesome work!

thanks so much! yeah, i agree. feet have pretty random shapes and creases that make them so interesting to draw. :D

Very nice, Sophie. I am interested in the wash that you would do to take away the white areas. Does it affect the other colors in the work ? I have areas like that in some of my drawings and I never quite know what to do with it.

in my mind, i kind of thought that the wash would cling on to the uncovered "holes" on the paper, and the rest would just sort of glide off the pencil crayon-covered areas, as it gets waxy. i haven't tried it yet. do you think it's a good idea?

It sounds good to me. I just wondered how it would go. I was intrigued by your idea. I have had a couple of drawings where I just couldn't get the darkness in the background with colored pencils so I tried using some black acylic and mixing those two medias made for a mess. But when you mentioned a wash, I thought maybe that is what I should have done and so I asked for your thoughts. If you decide to do it let me know how it goes. I am not with my drawings tonight or I would try a spot or two. It is a neat idea Sophie. If I use the technique I will give you credit. Thanks .

wow the colors are really warm and you have a great use of white there. Good work :)
:iconmwink:
thank you! speaking of white, it's so so so much easier with painting white on.. but colored pencils are fun too.
